Цель: формирование языковой компетенции учащихся по теме «Образование».

Задачи

Познавательный аспект: расширение общего кругозора школьников, стимулирование познавательной деятельности – обращение к дополнительным источникам информации, включая ресурсы Интернета.

Учебный аспект: активизация лексического материала, совершенствование навыков чтения, умения задавать вопросы и отвечать на них, выполнять творческую работу.

Развивающий аспект: развитие психических функций, связанных с речевой деятельностью: логического мышления, памяти, внимания, восприятия, развитие навыков критического мышления, положительных эмоций.

Воспитательный аспект: развитие умения работать в команде, активно слушать, уважать мнение другого; формирование потребности в самовыражении и самоактуализации.

Оснащение: компьютер, мультимедиапроектор, программа Power Point

Речевой материал:

лексический – be good at…, addicted, skull, mental, recipe, glucose, IQ, screwdriver, myth, physiological illness, males, females, visual-special tasks, oxygen consumption, complicated, challenging, фразы, выражающие личное мнение (From my point of view, In my opinion…, Personally I believe that…);

грамматический – времена английского глагола; неличные формы глагола: Gerund, Participle I; структура вопроса Do you know…? Can (Could) you tell me…, please? I wonder if you could tell me …, I should be interested to know…

Ход урока

1. Warming up – 2 min

Glad to see all of you! How are you?

Are you feeling sleepy? So let me suggest you a good way not to fall asleep! Look at the screen!

Do you have any ideas?

2. Actualization – 4 min

Can you give any ideas of what intelligence is?

According to the dictionary the definition of the word «Intelligence» is…

Are we close to this definition?

3. Pre -/Reading activities – 20 minutes

a) Matching – 3 min

Now let’s see how intelligent you are and complete the following exercise in pairs.

b) Reading for a gist – 6 min

I believe that one of the most efficient ways to increase our mental abilities is to read. Do you agree with me? So there is one article concerning the theme of our lesson called The Mind Machine.

Read the article and choose the most suitable heading from the list below for each numbered part of the article (см. текст The Mind Machine).

Let’s check the results! Try to prove your answer reading out some key sentences from the article.

c) INSERT reading – 11 min

The next step I would like to suggest you is to use method INSERT for the careful reading and understanding of the text. Let’s revise what it means!

Now it’s time to read it individually and then discuss in groups the results. You will be given 10 minutes for reading and making notes on the spaces.

4. Discussion of the new information – 7 min

a) Then in groups of 4 discuss the results of the second column (It’s new for me).

b) I think that you are rather curious and you may have some questions to ask to the texts. Who has any questions?

5. Reflexion – 5 min

Thank you very much for your questions, they are really worth thinking about! So let me now ask you one more question: Is it necessary for an intelligent person to be able to write poems? OK, I’d like to prove you that you are intelligent enough? Because now you will write an unusual poem called «think way». Let me remind you the structure of it.

Please try to follow these instructions and write a poem. Let’s listen to some of your poems. Now I am absolutely sure that you are both very creative and smart students. That means that you are intelligent.

6. Homework – 2 min

We’ve made a good job today! And I want you to do the same at home. What is the best way to develop your brain? Right!
